What the project set out to investigate

The Springer chapter describes the project goal as developing and demonstrating robot capabilities based on tactile feedback from robotic skin covering large areas of the robot body. The research problem was not just a sensitive material sample: it included the availability of embedded tactile technology at a scale suitable for robot experiments.
